Description:
Medium-sized, slim grey-and-white flycatcher with long wings and tail, broad-based bill. From Dark-sided Flycatcher by larger size, longer bill, paler grey-brown upperparts, faint dark streaking on forehead and crown, indistinct eye-ring, and diffuse grey-brown streaking on throat and breast.
Distribution:
Uncommon summer visitor and common passage migrant all across Gilgit-Baltistan. Prefers any open woodland or timbered area with raised perches providing an open view, up to 3000m. Breeds in juniper and open forests, especially pine.
Behavior:
Hunts mainly by sallying from perch, usually low branch, wires or fence; catches prey in flight and usually returns to perch to eat it; most forays made outside tree canopy, with most prey hawked in continuous movement from one perch to the next. Feeds mainly on flying insects, especially flies, bees, wasps and winged ants, adults and larvae other insects and bugs. Also some small fruits.
